Case study · Dostal Prints

A 3D-print channel that posts itself, every day

20 print timelapses in 20 days, one every day at 7pm CT to 6 platforms: 120 of 120 platform posts published, none posted by hand.

Sep 28, 2026 – ongoing

The problem

We're building the automation pieces to make this consistent and better overall, but we wanted to start putting the prints out while we improved our printing and other parts of the business and content.

Many creators need constant, small content. We wanted to dogfood every facet: the daily prints, the active work, the longer content, the short cuts. All of it needed to be tested and run.

How flayr was used

  1. 1

My pipeline uploads each timelapse through the API

Each print timelapse is uploaded into the Dostal Prints library by my own video pipeline through the flayr API, with its caption, designer credit and hashtags already attached.

  2. 2
    Labels & experiments

Music vs no music, labelled as an A/B test

Half the queue carries music and half is silent. The music is from the open music library in YouTube Studio, applied as overlays on hive before upload. Each post is labelled variant:music or variant:silent under one experiment, so the two can be compared.

  3. 3
    Attribution rules

A brand rule checks every print credits its designer

The Dostal Prints brand has a rule that every 3D-print video credits the model's designer. A post missing the credit is flagged, and every queued item passed. Of the first 20 posts, 8 credit a MakerWorld designer with a link, 10 are my own OpenSCAD designs and 2 are printer sample models.

  4. 4

A daily posting queue does the scheduling

The "Prints daily" queue publishes one post every day at 7pm CT to YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X, Threads and Bluesky through my @dammitdostal handles, taking the next item in queue order.

  5. 5
    Referral footer

A referral footer on the captions, a watermark on the video

At publish, flayr adds "Posted with flayr.social" and my referral link to the caption footer. The "Posted by flayr.social" watermark was burned into the videos on hive, my own render machine, before upload.

Live from flayr’s own analytics for Dostal Prints, as of . Platforms that don’t report a metric are left out, not counted as zero.

What we’d do differently

  • I need to dig into the analytics to compare music vs no music, but what surprised me is how many views the short 3D-print clips get. I didn't expect those to get any traction.
  • All music is from the open music library in YouTube Studio, applied as overlays. flayr offers stock video and images and will pull freely available music into content; I'll also release my own as I go.
  • I credit designers in the comments and in the video itself. Many upcoming prints will be my own designs; for others I add credit and flag any without one in the studio, updating as we go.
  • What's next: a music vs no-music test on the same prints, designer credits kept on every post, and automations so the queue stays full without me feeding it by hand. The short clips get more views than I expected, so I want to know why.
