Visual discovery + long content lifespans. Pins compound over months.
Overview
Pinterest is the long-tail discovery platform — a well-optimised Pin can drive traffic for 6-12 months after publish. Algorithm rewards consistent, topical pinning and high-quality source-site metadata.
Daily posting limits
- Pins per day200 pins
- Pin description500 characters
- Board count per account2,000 boards
New account rules
Pinterest has no documented new-account throttle, but accounts with zero pins for the first 30 days after signup often get de-prioritized in Related Pins. Flayr recommends pinning at least 3 per day for the first month.
Content type restrictions
- Pin image size32MB per image, 1000×1500 recommended (2:3)
- Video length4s – 15 minutes
- Idea Pin slides20 slides
Rate limits
Public API: 1,000 calls per hour. Flayr batches pins via Zernio so rate limits are effectively invisible to users.
Known issues
- Pins without a destination URL get heavily de-prioritized — Flayr auto-attaches one when missing.
- Duplicate pins to different boards are OK. Duplicate images to the same board trigger spam flags.
How Flayr handles this
Flayr auto-attaches a destination URL to every pin (falling back to the authoring brand profile), flags duplicate-image-same-board before publish, and suggests optimal board rotation for long-tail reach.
