YouTube
QuirkyLong-form + Shorts. Full upload API requires OAuth + channel verification.
Overview
YouTube is the highest-value channel for evergreen content — a single video can drive 10k+ views over 3 years. Upload API requires OAuth consent + a verified channel. Flayr handles both through the Google OAuth flow.
Daily posting limits
- Uploads per day100 uploads (API quota cost: 1,600 units/video)
- Caption length5,000 characters
- Tags per video500 chars across all tags
New account rules
Unverified channels are capped at 15 minutes per video. Channel verification requires a phone number and takes ~24 hours. Flayr prompts for verification during the connection flow.
Content type restrictions
- Video length15 min unverified / 12 hours verified
- Video file size128GB or 12 hours, whichever is lower
- Shorts lengthUp to 60 seconds (vertical 9:16)
Rate limits
Data API v3: 10,000 units per day per project. Video upload costs 1,600 units each, so ~6 uploads per day per Flayr tenant. Flayr pools the quota across users and balances against read operations.
Known issues
- Upload API 1,600-unit cost means daily quota maxes at ~6 new videos per tenant.
- Shorts uploaded via the Data API sometimes take 10+ minutes to appear in the Shorts shelf.
- Custom thumbnails require channel verification — unverified channels silently fall back to auto-generated ones.
Recent platform changes
- 2026-02-28YouTube Data API v3 raised default daily quota from 10,000 to 50,000 for verified apps. Flayr is verified, so users now get ~30 uploads/day headroom.
How Flayr handles this
Flayr prompts for channel verification during onboarding, pools the API quota across the tenant, and warns when a custom thumbnail upload would silently fail on an unverified channel.
